It’s Day 34, and when you’re right, you’re right.
Today Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is right.
He says the Senate will be launching a bipartisan investigation of suspected Russian interference in the election.
So I’m writing him a letter to let him know he’s right.
Not only that, if it’s true that “the Russians are not our friends,” as he says, then he should oppose the appointment of Rex Tillerson – CEO of ExxonMobil, recipient of the Russian Order of Friendship, with no government experience – as Secretary of State. I’ll be writing to ask him to oppose Tillerson too.
You can reach Leader McConnell here.
Sadly, it sounds like what McConnell originally said in his press conference has already been watered down and he’s not launching any special committees to look into anything (unlike, say, Benghazi)… http://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/republicans-russia-donald-trump-232528

He does seem to have walked it back a bit. I urged him, in my letter, to support a bipartisan investigation – meaning, the one proposed in part by Senators McCain and Graham, which goes beyond the Senate Intelligence Committee. I also urged him to oppose Tillerson, which he’s declined to do publicly yet (saying he hadn’t been officially nominated – but then, his last statement was yesterday, before the announcement became public).
I know it sometimes seems futile to talk to the other side. The point is there are places where our interests are aligned. I want to put pressure on those places. We need to come together, and it takes two.
